How to Choose the Right Chiropractor for Your Needs
Updated: Oct 19
Choose a chiropractor by checking credentials and evaluating the proposed care, not by promises of guaranteed results. A good explanation should connect the assessment, treatment goal, risks and review plan.
Start with your reason for seeking care
Describe the symptoms or activity you want help with. Ask whether the clinician regularly manages that problem and when they would refer you to a medical practitioner, physical therapist or specialist.

Check credentials and professional scope
Use the North Carolina Board of Chiropractic Examiners’ official resources for license information. A DC is a Doctor of Chiropractic; it does not by itself establish MD, neurology, physical-therapy or dietitian credentials. Additional qualifications should be verified rather than assumed from marketing terms.
Questions before agreeing to treatment
- What does the assessment suggest, and are there signs that require other medical evaluation?
- What benefits are realistic, what are the risks and alternatives, and can I choose a non-thrust approach?
- What are the expected visit costs, insurance arrangements and total proposed commitment?
- How will we measure progress, when will we review it and what changes if treatment does not help?
Be cautious about sweeping promises
Claims that every illness comes from misalignment, that everyone needs lifelong adjustments or that a package guarantees a cure deserve scrutiny. Manipulation can cause side effects; neck manipulation’s association with rare arterial injury should be discussed before that technique is considered.
Ask the Waynesville office your questions
