Spring Cleaning Your Exercise Routine
Updated: 6 days ago

Spring can be a good time to refresh a routine that has become repetitive. Choose activities you enjoy and make changes gradually, especially after a less active winter. Here are four ways to get started:
Try New Activities: Explore walking, hiking, swimming or cycling at a level that suits your current fitness. Plan for weather, terrain and any equipment you need rather than jumping straight into a demanding outing.
Join a Class: A group class can add variety and company. Ask about the level and available adaptations before trying dance fitness, yoga or another new activity. Tell the instructor about relevant limitations without feeling pressured to keep up.
Mix Up Your Routine: Change one element at a time, such as the activity, duration or setting. Build the challenge gradually and allow recovery between demanding sessions. More variety does not have to mean more intensity.
Move Comfortably: Gentle range-of-motion work or stretching may help flexibility, but stretching alone does not guarantee injury prevention. Avoid forcing a painful stretch, and adjust bending or reaching tasks to your comfort.
Consistency matters more than an all-or-nothing plan. Short activity sessions count, and a routine you enjoy is easier to repeat. If pain or a health condition limits what you can do, seek individualized guidance before substantially increasing the challenge.
